Happy Birthday To Me!

Well, it's that time of year again, another year older and none the wiser. Yes, today I turn 48 ...... 48!...Where the hell did that come from? Surely I only left school a couple of years ago?

Between the ages of about 15 - 25 I was a really keen cyclist, I loved my old 70's road bike and rode for miles every week until one fateful night when my bike was stolen from the garage. By this time I was driving (17 years old and a first time passer....oh yes!) and at 22 my son was born so time for myself and cycling had long gone out the window.

For years I've threatened to get back into road biking and constantly mentioned it to my wife especially last year when I saw my now grown up son do a charity bike ride from Stoke-London-Paris.

Anyway, my lovely Wife has presented me with this for my Birthday....

Aint she a beauty? ..... I'm really looking forward (if not a little nervous!) to get back on the road and I just hope I can remember how to ride!!!

As well as the bike the wife has also bought me the cycling shoes, shirt, leggings......... Don't ask me what I've done to deserve all this as I haven't a clue............Either that or she's after something.  Anyway, thanks to my lovely wife for a great Birthday and here's to getting fit again!

UPDATE:
I decided to change the pedals as the ones shown are a nightmare trying to get your foot into! and I couldn't use my new cycling shoes with them either.
I decided on Shimano pedals which came with cleats ......... £45 for a pair of pedals !!!!! I nearly went to the foot of our stairs.

Took my first ride today and also decided to start a new blog dedicated to my attempt to return to road cycling!

  1. Well happy birthday from cyclist to cyclist :)
If you don't know how you deserved this, you obviously have to make up a lot now! You can really feel glad for having a wife like her! Maybe she's the even greater present ;)

    Greetings, Mojo

  8. Cheers Ray. I know mate, I'm trying not to think about it. I had planned to get more Armourfast kits but you know how it is.

  9. been cycling again for nearly six months now - it's bloody dangerous out there nowadays though! Averaging 80 miles a week, lost 2 stone. Take care!

    1. I was just saying the same thing to my brother earlier today! Perhaps I was just a little less cautious and care free when I was younger though. Lol.
